Hornets Receive:
Iman Shumpert
Timofey Mozgov
Why it could be considered:
Again, this proposal centers around the Cavaliers acquiring Batum, but perhaps giving up less for his services. The Hornets could consider this trade because Mozgov could fill in at center in Jefferson’s absence and Iman Shumpert could be the perimeter defender that the Hornets would be giving up in Batum.
Financially, Shumpert is under contract for the next four seasons, so if the Hornets are looking to get a player in exchange for Batum rather than allowing him to walk for nothing at season’s end, this could be a trade they consider.
This trade would allow the Hornets to establish some continuity in the long-term while still competing in the short -term. However, the Hornets are probably more likely to take their chances with Batum this offseason rather than acquire Mozgov as a one-year rental along with the the oft-injured Shumpert.
