Fiesta Bowl Superlatives

Player of the Game: Ezekiel Elliott

Who else but ‘Zeke? He rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns. Those four rushing touchdowns is a Buckeye Bowl and Fiesta Bowl record, so this is an easy pick.

Play of the Game: Elliott’s 47 yard record-breaking touchdown

It is not even that spectacular of a play. William Fuller’s 81 yard touchdown where he shed defenders is the most highlight reel worthy. Yet, Elliott’s run up the right gap for his fourth touchdown of the game was a profound final statement for this year’s Buckeyes and his own special career at Ohio State.

Under the Radar Player of the Game: J.T. Barrett

Elliott deserves all of the credit. However, without Barrett as a legitimate running threat and a real passing quarterback, ‘Zeke might have found it harder to run for four touchdowns. Barrett passed for 211 yards and ran for 96 yards. He also threw a touchdown to wide receiver Michael Thomas. Barrett was not a headliner today, but his success had a lot to do with Elliott’s big performance.
