His Hire Hurts The Bengals

The Browns tapped their next head coach from a division rival.

Granted, the Bengals are a stable franchise with a solid coach and quarterback, but adding a new offensive coordinator into the mix doesn’t always guarantee harmony.

With Jackson gone, the Bengals will be forced to install their third offensive coordinator since 2013.

Jay Gruden called plays for the Bengals before Jackson was promoted. Gruden was hired by the Washington Redskins following a Bengals’ playoff berth in 2013. Jackson was promoted upon Gruden leaving.

Hopefully, Gruden’s success with the Redskins is indicative of what Jackson can do with the Browns.

This season, Gruden was faced with a big decision. Who would play quarterback in DC? Robert Griffin III or Kirk Cousins? Gruden went with Cousins, made the playoffs, and kept his job another year.

If Jackson proves to be that type of decision maker, the Browns will be in excellent shape.
