Cleveland Browns 2016 NFL Mock Draft 1.0
By Ryan Rosko
Round 4. Go Tackle And Get After The Quarterback
Saying the Cleveland Browns’ defense last season was bad is an understatement. Now that Ray Horton is back as the team’s defensive coordinator, there will plenty of blitzes and multiple coverages called.
Due to all of the formations Horton will throw out onto the field for the Cleveland Browns, the team is going to need players who can fill a number of roles. That is where Nick Vigil comes in.
Vigil is going to be a backup in the NFL next season. Maybe in his second season, he could compete for a starting job. In the meantime, Vigil will make an impact however he is used. Whether he is on special teams making a tackle or is substituted on defense getting after the quarterback and ball-carriers, Vigil will make plays.
Vigil had 17.5 sacks in college, including nine in 2014. He also accumulated over 100 tackles the last two seasons, while finishing with 339 tackles over the course of his career. There is no question Vigil would be a welcomed addition to the Cleveland Browns defense.
Round 4. Likely Going To Have To Replace Tashaun Gipson
Hopefully replacing Tashaun Gipson is just a worst case scenario and it does not actually happen. Unfortunately, with the Cleveland Browns and Gipson likely to part ways, the team must add talent to the position.
If Cleveland focuses strictly through the draft to add talent at the free safety position, then the Browns will be very young in that area. Second-year safety Ibraheim Campbell would be the favorite to start with Deon Bush coming along while having the potential to start late in 2016.
Should Cleveland somehow reach an agreement with Gipson, a pick like Bush should still happen. However, it could be pushed towards the fifth round pending player availability.
Bush does not hit as hard as other safeties, but he covers the field among the best at his position. He also continued to improve each season despite the coaching situation and the various adjustments with the Hurricanes that were made during his time in college.
Last season, Bush recorded 50 tackles with three tackles for loss. He also deflected six passes and forced two fumbles.
