Round 6. Brace For Worst Case Scenario Along Offensive Line

player. 53. . Offensive Tackle. Nebraska. Alex Lewis. 179

In this mock draft, the Cleveland Browns will be without Mack and Schwartz. If the Browns had more talent along the offensive line, then this pick could be used elsewhere. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Since there is a need for offensive linemen still, the Browns select Lewis here. Alex Lewis has the talent to be drafted earlier, but due to the depth on defense, he along with many other players slide down the draft.

Lewis may be forced into a starting role, replacing Schwartz. Should that happen, it will be tough to rely on a rookie, but Lewis is pretty and should do at least a serviceable job.

Prior to playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Lewis played for the University of Colorado. There he started 15 games – 12 at left guard, one at left tackle, and two at tight end. Hue Jackson used offensive tackle Jake Fisher in a variety of ways while working for the Cincinnati Bengals.

If Lewis does not start, he could play a role like Fisher’s this upcoming season. Whether or not Lewis is the long-term answer remains to be seen. Even if Lewis is not, he could become a very solid starting lineman.
