Rajon Rondo is exactly what the Cleveland Cavaliers need at the point guard position. I’m sure Rondo would be in favor of a deal allowing him to escape the mess that is the Sacramento Kings.

The four-time All-Star ranks first amongst point guards in assist ratio (43.0). Rondo finds the open man, end of story. He knows how to orchestrate an offense, and might even find Kevin Love at the elbow.

There would be no erratic possessions consisting of Irving’s “hero ball.” The team’s offensive efficiency would undoubtedly increase with Rondo at point, with or without LeBron James.

Surprisingly, Irving’s defensive efficiency (106.6) is slightly better than Rondo’s (107.1). The talent gap between the Kings and Cavaliers likely attributed to the surprising numbers.

Rondo is eighth in the league in steals with 1.97 per game, but his effort defensively is often questioned in Sacramento. Rondo has the ability to be an elite defender. Joining a team like the Cavaliers, with championship aspirations, would bring Rondo-circa 2012 back.

Shooting guard Ben McLemore, 23, does not excite me too much. In this deal, the third year guard is a throw in with potential upside. McLemore is averaging career lows in both minutes and points. In 58 games this season he’s averaging 7.5 points, 1.2 assists, and 2.0 rebounds.

Rondo would solve many of the Cavaliers issues on both sides of the ball, if only this wasn’t a hypothetical.
