Hue Jackson Reportedly Favors Lynch

On Monday, FoS editor Nick Dudukovich wrote about Peter King’s belief that the Cleveland Browns would trade down to select Lynch because he’s the man Hue Jackson wants.

"“Browns would love to trade for even more value for this pick. Lots of buzz that coach Hue Jackson likes Paxton Lynch and is advocating for the Memphis quarterback, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a trade down (maybe for a team to move up for Myles Jack or Eli Apple), with Cleveland ending up with an extra second-round pick in a draft packed with second-round and third-round value,” King wrote."

If this is indeed the case, then Hue Jackson should get his man. At the end of the day, his future is tied to the team’s draft picks. How he is viewed as a coach and evaluator of talent is dependent on his ability to make solid selections in the draft.

In Hue we should trust, he is a well-respected offensive mind and Lynch has the size and physical ability to be a prominent quarterback at the next level. Despite King’s report, other Browns beat writers have not heard the same thing regarding Jackson’s preference.

Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland has heard the exact opposite regarding Lynch and the Browns.

Grossi went on to say he believes Jackson is eyeing “some quarterback with some pick” because that’s “how he will be judged on his first draft.”

Reports have also surfaced hinting that Michigan State and Walsh Jesuit product Connor Cook is the preferred quarterback of Browns’ brass. As Grossi noted, there are a lot of smoke screens right now.

Regardless, it’s not hard to believe Jackson favors Lynch or Cook, but I sure hope it’s Lynch. Drafting Cook would be a mistake for the Cleveland Browns.
