5. 2013-2014 Miami Heat

This was LeBron’s last run with his buddy, Dwyane Wade in the NBA Finals.

It was also during this series in which it was obvious James realized the Heat’s championship window had closed.

Miami looked slow and old when trying to keep up with the space-and-pace style of play used by the Spurs, as San Antonio buried the Heat in five games, winning four contests by 15 points or more.

James’ facial expressions toward the end of the series told the story of man looking for life preserver that didn’t exists in the middle of the Atlantic.

James averaged 28.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game but he didn’t get much help from Wade and Chris Bosh. Bosh averaged just 5.2 board per game–too low a total.  Wade averaged 15.2 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field.

“We lost one (finals), we won two and we lost another one,” James said in defeat. “(We’ll) take 50 percent in four years in championships any day. Obviously, we want to win all of them, but that’s just the nature of the game. Not proud of the way we played (in this series).”

It wasn’t long after this game that James opted out of his contract with the Heat and rejoined a younger superstar named Kyrie Irving back in Cleveland.
