LeBron’s first taste of the Finals was also his worst, as the Cavs got swept out the door by the San Antonio. At the time of this column, this team was the last to be swept in The Finals.
While this was LeBron’s worst Finals team, it shouldn’t take away from the accomplishment of getting there. This team, which paired Larry Hughes, Daniel Gibson and Drew Gooden with James, might be one of the worst Finals teams in NBA history–yet James won the East and ended the Detroit Pistons dominance of the conference in the process.
Against Tony Parker and Tim Duncan in their primes, a 22-year-old James and his rag-tag group of teammates had no shot against the Spurs.
The Spurs put all their focus on James, and the Cavs had no other weapons capable of stepping up on such a big stage. Drew Gooden averaged 12. points and 8 rebounds per game, but when he’s your No. 2 option, you know you’re in trouble.

Much is made about how James has lost his share of Finals, but in doing so, fans also need to remember the bad teams he got to the Finals. That, in itself is a major accomplishment, and this team serves as the biggest reminder.
