A Fresh Start

Osweiler was brought into Houston to be the face of the franchise. That did not go as expected. Each year, so many players for various reasons leave for new teams.

Often, those players don’t have a say as they simply get traded away. Other reasons include starting for the first time or leaving for a team who has a great coaching staff in place.

For Osweiler, the trade was necessary. Houston realized they made a mistake and they needed to move on.

Cleveland is not the team Osweiler had when he was in Denver. When the Browns do become the team Denver was and in many cases still are, he won’t be here. Despite that, Osweiler can still help and maybe play like the player we all saw earlier in his career.

There is still so much Cleveland must do to compete on a regular basis. Expecting any quarterback for Cleveland to immediately turn them into a 10 win team this season is very premature. It does not matter which qurterback plays the most in 2017, as they will improve, but still have a losing record.

That may not be the best ringing endorsement, but look at what Cleveland is now and where they were just a few months ago. In time, things will change in NE Ohio and changes are good for everyone every so often.

Osweiler is not the long-term answer, but as needed at worst, can help in a temporary role in a new city as Cleveland continues to improve.
