What the heck happened to Calvin Pryor?

The defensive back the Browns acquired in a trade from the Jets for DeMario Davis is bored on the depth chart behind Ibraheim Campbell and Justin Currie. No disrespect to Justin, but this is the first many of you will have seen his name.

Pryor had a real shot to unseat Campbell at the spot, but his spot on the depth chart tells you everything you need to coach about what coaches have seen in camp.

Perhaps that missed tackle where Pryor was the last man from stopping Crowell from a 37-yard-gain is still fresh in the mind of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Currie is a 23-year-old product of Western Michigan, who’s never played a snap during a regular-season game. He was signed by the Giants in 2015, but was cut before the season started. He was a member of the Browns squad during the last four weeks of the 2016 season.

Campbell was primed to be beat for his starting gig, as the Northwestern product was one of Pro Football Focus’ lowest rated safeties in 2016. Of the 90 safeties qualified to be ranked, Campbell was 85th.
