5. The Buckeyes play their best on the road.

Usually home field advantage is a major factor in a team’s success. The home field advantage factor isn’t quite that necessary force when it comes to the Buckeyes. This is not to say that the Buckeyes don’t have it better than almost any other team in The Horseshoe. What it does say is that they don’t need home field advantage in order to succeed.

The Buckeyes have the best win-loss record as an away team in the nation since 2012. Their record boasts 24 wins to just one loss. Urban Meyer has made this Buckeyes team play like they’re at home away from home since he signed on.

Nebraska hasn’t necessarily been a slouch as the home team though. The Cornhuskers hadn’t lost one home game at night since 2008 up until last week when they lost to Wisconsin. That is still quite the track record which should be kept in mind regardless.

Playing away from home has its advantages especially when playing inferior opponents. In the Bucks’ case, this is just about every other week. It’s harder to get up to play a great game when the opponent is greatly outmatched. In turn, the team that is favored may come out a bit sluggish as if they were expecting to get handed a victory.

However, this dynamic changes on the road as Ohio State knows they have to play their best in a hostile environment to prevent the upset. This is amplified in a prime time game under the lights. The Buckeyes thrive in this setting as being the favorite doesn’t hold them down as much.

Ohio State has held tough in road games and played some of their best games under the lights. This trend isn’t expected to change against a weaker Nebraska team this weekend. Nebraska has already lost twice at home and is coming off a 21 point loss in their stadium. Expect the Bucks to continue their road dominance in this game.
