Cleveland Browns: 4 most egregious moments from Sashi Brown’s press conference
4. Nothing on Kenny Britt’s background
I like analytics, they serve a purpose, but as Hue Jackson reminded me during a fundraiser for his foundation, football has a human element.
Sashi and Paul DePodesta didn’t take that into account with Kenny Britt.
They viewed him as a wide receiver in the NFL coming off a big year, which mean he was going to get a big contract.
When Terrelle Pryor declined the Browns offer, it was easy for Brown to hand Britt a contract.
They didn’t know the person, as we learned from Brown’s presser.
Judging what Sashi said at the presser, it’s as if the Browns did no homework on the Browns biggest free-agent bust.
"“Asked specifically if he consulted the coaching staff before signing Britt, Brown said: ‘Not going to go all the way back through all our evaluation processes, we have good processes internally.'”"
Why wouldn’t Sashi want to go back and hash all that out. Because the fact that the Browns made a massive mistake in signing Britt would be revealed.
When asked about his job security, Brown tried to sell his track record on trades as a reason he’s in a good place with the Haslams. Quite frankly, I don’t know how he could do it.
Maybe this is all unfair to Sashi. He’s a lawyer who used to handle contracts. He’s out of his expertise here.
