Pat Tabler, 1B

Pat Tabler may be one of the most underrated Indians of the 1980s, just because the franchise was so bad.

With that said, these two things are true: Tabler was a great player, and his mustache was even better.

A product of Cincinnati’s McNicholas High School, Tabler was a first-round pick of the New York Yankees in 1976. He went through New York’s minor league system before being dealt to the Cubs in 1982 for a player named Bill Caudill and Jay Howell.

The Indians take a ton of flack for being bad in the 80s, but this trade basically sums up those terrible Yankees teams of the decade. Think they could’ve used a player such as Tabler? You bet.

Tabler had been traded twice before being dealt to the Indians on April 1, 1983.

Tabler was named an All-Star in 1987. That season, he hit .307 (.809 OPS). The Tribe traded him to the Royals 41 games into the 1988 campaign for Bud Black.

Tabler earned a World Series ring with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992.
