Conner Capel, RF, +17 (Preseason unranked, currently 13)

Conner Capel moved up 17 spots on MLB Pipeline’s list of the Tribe’s top 30 prospects.

That’s a big leap to make, but Capel deserved to leapfrog several of his peers.

Capel, a fifth-round pick in 2016, didn’t homer in short season rookie ball after being selected, but Tribe scouts got a glimpse of his power while the outfielder was at Lake County.

Capel hit .246 (.795) with 22 homers. Based off his power surge in low A, scouts now project him to possess average power in the big leagues, according to MLB Pipeline.

He played center field as a rookie, but was listed as a right fielder on the Captains’ web site. His scouting report stated Capel brings a “grind it out” mentality to the field.

Capel’s still got a long way to go before taking up residence on the corner of Carnegie on Ontario, but at the very least, the Indians have another corner outfield prospect who can hit for power, which is something the franchise hasn’t been able to develop since the days of Manny Ramirez.

After a full season in Lake County, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Capel, 20, open up the 2018 season in high-A Lynchburg.
