Julian Merryweather, SP, +14 spots (Preseason 26, currently 12)
Julian Merryweather from 26th to 12 and he could be someone the Tribe calls on to help out the big-league club during the 2018 campaign.
The 26-year-old was recently added to the Tribe’s 40-man roster, and it could be argued he’s the Tribe’s second-best pitching prospect right now.
He dominated at Class AA last season, and while he was hit hard at Columbus, he was decent enough.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the shuttle between Columbus and Cleveland featuring a seat for Merryweather, especially if Cleveland’s rotation gets bogged down by injuries.
With a fastball ranging in the mid 90s, Merryweather currently is projected to be a fourth or fifth starter in the big leagues.
Merryweather was 3-7 in his 16 starts for the Clippers with a 6.59 ERA. He struck out 76 batters.
Merryweather was added to the Tribe’s 40-man roster, which was probably done to avoid seeing the prospect, who’s been with the Tribe the past four seasons, from being chosen in the Rule 5 draft.
