10 moves the Cleveland Browns must make during the 2018 offseason
7. Give Gordon the exclusive rights tag
Did you see Josh Gordon in the Pittsburgh game? He didn’t want a thing to do with a “Perfect Season.”
I thought he played hard and left it all on the field, catching four balls for 115 yards.
The Browns can’t afford to move him because they have no one else.
Yes, there were times following Gordon’s comeback where his commitment was questioned, but I think he put that to rest with his Week 17 performance. This is a talent the Browns need, and his desire shows that he wants to be a part of this rebuilding project.
With that said, the Browns shouldn’t move because they’re probably not going to get a ton for him.
Gordon’s still one mistake away from being suspended indefinitely. It’s unlikely there’s a team willing to give a first-round pick for someone they can’t count on.
So, maybe the Browns get a third or fourth round pick for Gordon if John Dorsey fields offers.
Big deal.
Wouldn’t you prefer Josh Gordon over the future special teamer the Browns are going to take with that pick.
The Browns, barring an unforeseen brain camp, will give Gordon the exclusive rights free agent tag, which applies to players with less than three accrued seasons in the NFL.
Per Joel Corry of CBS sports, this could net Gordon around $790,000 in 2018. The big thing with this tag is that no other player would be able to make Gordon an offer.
