The Browns need guys who score touchdowns, which makes Saquon Barkley such as tantalizing option with the Browns’ first and fourth selections.

But there’s no denying the franchise’s need for a quarterback.

After that, you can debate the merits of drafting Barkley at No. 4, if he’s still around.

Fitzpatrick should be the preferred choice, even is Barkley is still around because of two things. No. 1. Is he SO special he should warrant being the No. 1 pick in the draft? If the Browns are going to take a running back that high, that player better be an Adrian Peterson type. I’m not sure Barkley fits the bill.

Remember, back-to-back games against Ohio State and Michigan State? Barkley combined for 107 rushing yards and one touchdown. Against quality Big Ten talent, when his team needed him to be at his best, he was just kind of OK. Barkley did rush for 137 yards in his Bowl game against No. 12 Washington, but even with that said you’ve got to consider the depth of this running back class.

Georgia’s Sonny Michel, USC’s Ronald Jones and Alabama’s Damien Harris ensure a team is going to get great value late in the first or in the second round by taking one of these backs.

And then there’s Nick Chubb, who is coming off a 145-yard performance against Oklahoma in the national semifinal.

He’s fast and tough to tackle, and he could be available on day two because he splits carries with Michel. The Browns need a guy who scores touchdowns, and Chubb had 15 of them (and counting) this season.

Paired with Duke Johnson, there shouldn’t be a drop-off from losing Isaiah Crowell, and maybe there’d even be an improvement withs one younger lines behind the Browns’ offensive line.
