5. Cavs help the Lakers in the LeBron sweepstakes

The Cavaliers have effectively cleared the way for the Lakers to make a run at both Paul George and James this summer when free agency commences.

It appeared as if the Lakers weren’t going to shed any contracts before the deadline, but they did, shipping the $25.9 million Jordan Clarkson is owed in the next two seasons to the Cavs, all the while getting a draft pick to boot!

Obviously the James-Lakers rumors will only continue to intensify because of the financial situation the Lakers now find themselves in, but it’s something the Cavs couldn’t worry about.

The organization has made some moves that will give the franchise a chance to appear in its fourth straight NBA Finals. Having one Larry O’Brien, with the possibility of facing the Warriors again, you’ve got to acknowledge that it’s been a heck-of-a-run.

Maybe LeBron wins it and stays, maybe he doesn’t.

Either way, the Cavs are positioned for the future.
