Matt Dayes, RB

Matthew Dayes probably makes the roster, unless the Browns find a player they like a little better in the free-for-all that is final roster cuts.

If Dayes makes the roster, his role will be identical to last year.

Carlos Hyde and Nick Chubb will do the heavy lifting, with Duke Johnson offering a change of pace as a pass catcher out of the backfield.

Something else to note: Dontrell Hilliard got five snaps as Dayes got seven. Hilliard made the most of his snaps, carrying the ball four times for 19 yards. Dayes had one attempt for zero yards.

For the entire preseason, Dayes has six carries for 16 yards. His best game was in preseason Week 1.

During a contest in which Nick Chubb really struggled to run behind a reserve offensive line, Dayes averaged 4.3 yards per carry.

Again, Dayes probably makes the squad unless they find a back, perhaps someone they were considering drafting later in the draft that they couldn’t because their name had already been called.

Dayes was a seventh-round selection in 2017. He carried the ball just five times last season for 13 yards.
