Denzel Ward can limit Michael Thomas
The New Orleans Saints boast another top-shelf receiver in Michael Thomas, but fortunately for the Cleveland Browns, Denzel Ward appears up to the task of shutting down one the game’s best up-and-coming talents.
Just look at what Ward accomplished in his NFL debut.
Ben Roethlisberger targeted a receiver under Ward‘s watch 10 times, and was successful on six of 10 throws. Antonio Brown totaled nine catches for 93 yards and a score, but Ward also had two interceptions, in addition to a pass break up.
If you’re the Browns, you take this every day considering all of the league’s rules are set up to benefit the quarterback and receivers.
Ward didn’t let Brown take over the game, which is certainly something he’s capable of doing.
With that in mind, Ward’s must be effective in limiting Thomas on Sunday.
Ward allowed a touchdown to Brown, but his coverage was excellent with his only fault being that he didn’t turn around to look for the ball on the scoring play.
Mitchell graded out horribly against the Steelers, and really needs a good bounce-back game.
Ginn, 33, can still make plays, catching five balls for 68 yards and a touchdown during the Saints’ Week 1 loss.
New Orleans doesn’t have a strong option in the slot receiving spot, though, which bodes well for the Cleveland secondary. Rookie receiver Tre’Quan Smith still has a lot to prove.
