With John Dorsey in charge, there’s a sense that hiring a college coach might be more in play than in the past.

Dorsey cut his teeth as a scout, and even after he became a general manager, the Browns’ top football man continued to have college connections as he scouted the best players in the country.

Campbell is a young up-and-comer who has been pegged for a pro coaching gig after leading Iowa State to upsets over No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Texas Christian and No. 18 Memphis in the Liberty Bowl during the 2017-2018 season.

Former NFL veteran Ellis Hobbs, who played collegiately at Iowa State, compared Campbell’s style to some other A+ coaching names, via USA Today.

"“Having the opportunity to play for Bill Belichick and Andy Reid and those types of guys and those types of coaches, they’re doing exactly what Campbell does as far as the details, the process, the things of that nature, over and over and over again,” Hobbs said."

Campbell, who is 38, is a native of Massillon, Ohio. Of course, the most famous coach in Browns’ history has ties to that era and his name is Paul Brown.

Campbell’s young, energetic and his background is on the offensive side of the ball. He’s exactly the type of coach the Browns’ front office might want to pair with quarterback Baker Mayfield as Cleveland’s quarterback of the future develops.

There are concerns regarding Campbell, in that Ames, Ia. is a long way from Cleveland. How will Campbell handle the scrutiny of coaching the Browns, whose fans are desperate to win?
