Cleveland Browns: 5 ways the Browns can steal a road win vs Broncos
Chubb-a-lug
The Christmas Train runs through Denver Saturday night, and with Nick Chubb as the conductor, the Cleveland Browns rushing attack should inflict plenty of damage.
Chubb hasn’t had a game that makes you go “Wow” in the past couple of weeks, but with that said, he’s still been pretty effective.
What happens if Chubb stacks the box? No worries. The Georgia product has ran into an eight-man-or-more box the 2nd most often among half backs with a great deal of success, , according to Pro Football Focus.
He’s still the NFL leader in yards after contact, averaging 4.6 yards after being touched. Only two running backs in the entire league are averaging over four yards after contact. It’s even crazier when you see Chubb is averaging just .74 yards per attempt before drawing contact.
It also shouldn’t be lost on Chubb that he’s establishing himself as someone who can catch the ball out of the backfield.
He’s caught at least three passes in his last four games and is averaging 9.4 yards per reception.
What this means to the rushing attack and to Baker Mayfield can’t be understated. Defenses have to prepare for the possibility of Chubb taking a Mayfield swing pass for big yardage.
Consider that, with Mayfield’s arm and ability to extend the field so that defenses can’t load up on stopping the run and you can easily see why the shifty back finds room to work.
