No one should know how important a kicker can be than general manager John Dorsey.

Had the Browns had a decent kicker, chances are, they’d have been in the playoffs this past season.

Instead, three games were squandered because of poor kicking, which is why the position is in serious need of an upgrade.

Free agency is also the spot to fix this position, because if you go through the draft, you’re probalby not going to burn a pick on a kicker until the later rounds.

Then, you’re hoping the guy proves himself in camp and the preseason so you can hand him the job in the regular season. That becomes an adventure intself.

The Browns should fix the kicker position and forget about the problem by signing Jaguars’ free agent Josh Lambo.

At 28, Lambo is in his prime, having nailed 38-of-41 attempts over the past two years. Plus, he can go deep, connecting on 6-of-7 kicks over 50 yards in the same span.

Having someone who can boot the ball 50 yards is so important. Just think back to the Browns regular-season finale loss to the Ravens. Had Cleveland had someone with a big leg, they could have tried a 50-yard field goal for the win.

Hopefully Lambo reaches free agency. Never forget how the Browns used their franchise tag on Phil Dawson, twice, no less!

If he’s available, the Browns have more than enough cap space to secure the position, easing the minds of their fans in process.
