1. JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Stanford
Going wide receiver in the first round would be a stretch, just because there’s no slam dunk choice.
With that said, JJ Arcega-Whiteside would be nice pick, but the Browns would probably have to act on him quickly in the second-round.
Even though it’s after the first round, GM John Dorsey still may not want to start spending receivers just yet.
But if he wants Arcega-Whiteside, he’s probably going to have take him the second round.
While at Stanford, Arcega-Whiteside matched the single-season touchdown record by hauling in 14 scores. He also totaled over 1,000 yards receiver as a senior.
Like so many receivers worthy of taking after the first round, Arcega-Whiteside needs to polish his route running, but he’s 6-foot-3 and comes from a basketball background. It’s evident when watching him on film.
He’s not a burner, but his athleticism affords him the ability to rack up yards after a catch, a stat important to analytics departments.
Arcega-Whiteside could go in the second round, which may be early for the Dawg Pound’s liking, but if he’s there in the third, Dorsey should give this wideout serious consideration.
