2. Taylor Rapp, S, Washington

Taylor Rapp had a stellar combine, that have some conjuring up the idea that the Washington product will be a first-round pick.

There are serious questions about how he’ll perform in coverage when he gets to the pros, though, which is why he may have to wait until day two to hear his name called.

Fortunately, Rapp played strong safety very at the college level, which just so happens to be a big position of need following the team’s trade of Jabrill Peppers to the New York Giants.

Draftniks are excited about his instincts and his ability as a run defender. He’s aggressive in his pursuit of ball carriers and can lay a lick. Plus, he can help stack the box, as a legit strong safety should be able to do.

As previously mentioned, Rapp what you think of when you hear of a strong safety. He’s not a center fielder ball hawk who’s going to fly around in coverage. He may surprise when matched up against a tight end in man-to-man coverage.

In 2018, Rapp had 59 tackles and five sacks. If drafted, he would probably have a shot to win the starting strong safety job coming out of camp.

The Browns are in need of a safety following the trade of Jabrill Peppers and Thompson would be a nice a fit. Currently, the job belongs to Derick Kindred, but by no means is the position settled.

Remember, Rapp has early-starter potential. To get that with the 49th pick in the draft would be a steal.
