1. David Long, Michigan

David Long gained a reputation for his press-man coverage skills while playing corner for the Wolverines. He continued on to the NFL combine where he posted a stellar three-cone drill time of 6.35 seconds.

He’s excellent at back pedaling, looks comfortable moving his hips and seems to be able to find the ball.

With the Browns need to add some depth at corner, Long would be solid addition to the roster.

He’s not the fastest guy, or the tallest (5-foot-11), which means his future may be in the slot, but with the NFL so pass happy, you better have an exceptional slot corner to slow down opposing quarterbacks. This is where Long’s press coverage skills come in handy.

Long intercepted three passes and deflected 11 others during the last two seasons with the Wolverines.

Todd McShay recently had him going in the second round, 61st to the Chiefs. He’d likely be available at 49 should general manager John Dorsey choose to head in this direction.

Mel Kiper Jr. didn’t mock him in the second round. I’d be more included to follow Kiper’s lead here. I’d love Long with the Browns current third-round pick (80th overall). Picking him 49th might be a little too high.

T.J. Carrie looks to be the Browns’ opening day slot corner, but I’m not sold on Eric Murray as the strong safety yet, and the team didn’t rule out moving Carrie to strong safety during last month’s owners’ meetings.
