Cleveland Cavaliers: 4 impacts 2019 NBA Draft has on 2019-2020
Porter value pick of the draft
Kevin Porter was the 30th pick overall. How many No. 30 picks can you name? I’m drawing a blank. But NBA writer Alex Kenny believes the Cavs’ got the steal of the draft in Porter, whom Cleveland acquired in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 30th pick is made for big swings, and that’s what Porter is, having disciplinary issues in his lone season with USC.
Here’s the wrap on Porter. He was suspended for a violation team rules at USC. Despite arriving as a five-star recruit, he’s mostly disappointed in Southern California, averaging just 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Teams did their homework and entered the draft with questions surrounding Porter’s patience and coachability, according to The Athletic.
Porter is 6-foot-5, and can play shooting guard or small forward. With the pick of Garland, you could envision a starling lineup of Porter at small forward, paired with guards Sexton and Garland. Throw Kevin Love and Larry Nance into that lineup and while you don’t have a championship contender yet, you’re certainly loaded with potential.
