Rookie sixth-rounder Drew Forbes came out of nowhere to earn first-team reps during the Browns’ joint practices with the Colts this past past.

He’s still a longshot to win the starting job, but he’s opening eyes, evidenced by his reps with the first team during the week, and then in the game.

He came out in the second series with the offense at right guard. He was on the left side during the next series.

What’s it all mean. The coaches like what they see and they want to see more of the player who turned out to be Sports Illustrated’s “Prospect X.”

The job seems to be Eric Kush‘s to lose, but his grasp on the starting job can’t be tight. Austin Corbett played as the second team center and couldn’t snap the ball, causing his stock to fall. Local product Kyle Kalis has seemingly faded because of a concussion suffered against Washington.

ClevelandBrowns.com writer Nick Shook spoke of Forbes’ chances to start at right guard during the pregame show, and he basically said those odds were minimal.

With a good performance against the Colts, though, the coaches will continue to be intrigued.

We’ll see what the third preseason game holds, as the contest is typically regarded as the dress rehearsal for the regular season.
