Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns whose stock is up after Colts win
Bonus: Jamie Gillan, P
Punter Jamie Gillan is another player who helped his stock, probably more so with other teams in the league, than the squad he suits up with now.
Gillan, known as the “Scottish Hammer” for his massive leg, opened eyes when he flipped the fields on the Colts. Gillan booted the ball 74 yards on his best kick of the preseason. It went way over Chester Rogers’ head and bounced twice before landing on the Colts’ 10-yard line.
Gillan got another shot and booted the ball 45 yards.
There may be a path for Gillan to make the team, and that’s money. He’s a cheaper option that incumbent Britton Colquitt, but it remains unknown how confident the Browns actually are in Gillan.
In addition to punting, Gillan notably had to work on holding the ball for the kickers during minicamp and the early parts of preseason. It’s certainly something he’s capable of learning, but there hasn’t been much said of his chances to knock Colquitt off the roster.
If released, ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi wrote with conviction, that Gillan would be picked up by another team if cut by the Browns.
