2. Seth DeValve

Another Training Camp, another extended absence for Seth DeValve. He’s back now, but there isn’t a lot of time left to make this team.

David Njoku and Demetrius Harris are locks to make the roster. After those two players, the talent drops off significantly. Rico Gathers impresses with his athleticism, but is suspended for the first week of the season.

Pharaoh Brown has gotten reps with the first team at various points of the preseason, but again, there is a drop off.

DeValve’s name has been talked about as a potential cut ever since mini camp. With that said, he still has a chance to make an impression and get on the right side of the bubble before cut-down day.

Gathers may end up being the Wild Card here, as the general  manager can manipulate the roster in order to keep the former college basketball player. Cleveland could keep two tight ends and a fullback (Kerridge) and then re-adjust when Gathers becomes eligible.

Prediction: I wrote off DeValve at the end of last preseason, yet he’s still here. I really do think this is the end of the line for him, though and I think his replacement ultimately comes from another team after initial cuts are made.
