Cleveland Browns: 7 Browns on roster bubble ahead of Buccaneers game
5. Daniel Ekuale
The 2019 season marks Daniel Ekuale‘s second season with the organization, as he spent weeks 1-13 on the practice squad.
This year, he’s got a real chance to make the team, although he’s on the bubble, battling Trevon Coley for one spot as a backup at defensive tackle.
On the defensive line, Sheldon Richardson and Larry Ogunjobi have the starting spots on the interior locked down, while Devaroe Lawrence has emerged throughout camp and the preseason.
Assuming the Browns keep eight or nine players, that leaves one roster open.
Coley is a veteran player who received a lot of playing time last season and the stats from Pro Football Focus indicate he really struggled. The lack of production from Coley is why finding defensive interior help became a priority during the offseason.
It’s why many mock drafters had the Browns going defensive line and it’s why Dorsey signed Richardson in free agency.
Prediction: Ekuale is in and Coley is out. Look for him to join a Browns defensive line consisting of Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, Richardson, Ogunjobi, Genard Avery, Chris Smith, Lawrence and Chad Thomas.
