9. Wilks becomes head coaching candidate

Steve Wilks was given one year as a head coach with the Arizona Cardinals, but then was replaced as Arizona shifted the direction of their franchise.

Well, Wilks’ stock is poised to go back up coaching Cleveland’s defense.

Defensively, the Browns are going to be entertaining and it starts in the trenches with Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson.

The expectation is that quarterbacks are going to be under pressure a lot. If that holds true, the Browns’ defense will be causing havoc by pilling up sacks or by forcing quarterbacks into making errors, results in turnovers.

It will be also be worth watching how Wilks’ naviages the linebacking corps. There’s reason to be optimistic about rookies Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki, but it was heavily reported back in mini camp how dedicated the Browns are to using two line backers and three safeties.

For as colorful as former coordinator Gregg Williams was, the big trick up his sleeve was to dial up blitz. This year’s defense, under Wilks, can be so much more and it will be and their performance is sure to land Wilks some interviews during the offseason.
