3. Garrett chases down Strahan’s single-season sack record

Myles Garrett barely played in the preseason, but when he did, he usually had the Browns Twitterati drooling all over their smartphones.

Garrett looked unstoppable rushing off the edge, which means he’s poised to not just break Reggie Camp‘s single-season sack record, but he’s going to flirt with Michael Strahan‘s NFL record.

Strahan tallied 22.5 sacks for the Giants during the 2001 campaign, while Camp recorded 14 quarterback takedowns in 1984. Garrett sniffed the Browns’ record a season ago, totaling 13.5 sacks.

Thanks to the addition of Olivier Vernon on the opposite EDGE, we can all stop pretending Emmanuel Ogbah will be a good player. Vernon is an established vet, doing more in one preseason game against Tampa than Ogbah did all of last season.

So if Garrett can do that type of damage with last year’s defensive line, imagine what he can do with Vernon, in addition to tackles Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson.

The real question is whether Andy Dalton is just going to lay down for Garrett like Brett Favre did for Strahan in Cleveland’s regular-season finale against the Bengals Dec. 29.

Even if Garrett doesn’t get the record, it’s realistic he finishes the season with 20 sacks. The Browns look to have some stellar depth on the defensive line. He’ll be able to get plenty of rest and put himself in the best situation to come up with sacks.
