5. Wilson takes over for Kirko

The rookies got out of the gate fast in the preseason with Mack Wilson and Christian Kirksey putting starters Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey on notice.

The first-year players were aggressive and made plays.

Wilson, in particularly, showed out with two inceptions and a touchdown against the Redskins.

Both came down to earth after that as Takitaki was slowed by a hamstring injury while Wilson struggled with fundamentals.

Even though he dropped off, Wilson seems poised to play a lot as the Browns try to improve a linebacking corps that really struggled to tackle a season ago.

Schobert led the league in missed tackles, while the departed Jamie Collins wasn’t far behind him.

Look for Wilson to play well enough to start challenging Kirko for starts. It may take a month, but the potential is certainly there.

Schobert, meanwhile, looked great toward the end of the preseason and his ability to get the defense set shouldn’t be undervalued.
