Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns whose stock is up after MNF win vs Jets
1. Myles Garrett
Myles Garrett had a career high 3.0 sacks during the New York Jets, and he had several other quarterback hits throughout the night.
Garrett now has 5.0s sacks on the season and is not only well positioned to make a run at the Browns’ single season record, but also, Michael Strahan‘s NFL single-season mark, as was so bold predicted on the Factory Lines before the the season.
Garret is not without criticism though, as he was flagged for two roughing the passer penalities, in addition to an offsides call.
One of his hits brought down his full weight onto Trevor Simeon, injuring the quarterback’s ankle and forcing him out of the game.
Garrett took a beating from the social media police and I get it: The Browns aren’t so good they can just give teams first downs.
That said, don’t you want your best defender to be an “SOB?” This is a football, a game not for the faint of heart. Think of the great pass rushers in NFL history. These are guys you don’t want to mess with and their mere presence on the field should spark fear in the opposing players.
It’s not fair to Garrett, because when the Browns lose, everyone is going to get on him for being immature. But when they win…he brings an edge. A fine line to walk for sure.
This storyline will continue to be one to watch, though, because Garrett was never a player to draw too many personal foul penalties during his first two years in the league. Now, all of a sudden, he can’t stop.
