Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns whose stock is up after MNF win vs Jets
5. Austin Seibert
New York, as the song goes, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.”
Browns rookie kicker Austin Seibert, who has said he prefers kicking on the road, was 3-of-3 on field goals at MetLife Stadium. Seibert converted on kicks of 28, 48 and 43 yards and was a perfect 3-of-3 on extra points.
It was a relief to see him make the two from 40 yards, because he still carries the stigma that each try from that distance is going to be gamble.
The 48-yard conversion was particularly impressive because it wasn’t just accurate, but it had plenty of leg on it that it would’ve been good from another 10 yards out.
The fact that Seibert had to kick three field goals is disappointing because the Browns offense stalled, but at least the rookie was up to the challenge.
Browns’ special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said perhaps Seibert wasn’t quite “mentally prepared” when he missed that extra point against the Titans in Week 1, but that wasn’t the case on Monday night.
Seibert must continue to keep building confidence and that only comes with more successful conversions. He’s on the right tack.
