5. Mack Wilson
I was looking for Mack Wilson to have a huge game, he didn’t and that was clear right off the bat when he over pursued on Matt Breida. By getting way out of position, Wilson left his game wide open. It’s why Breida was able to run 83-yards to pay dirt.
On a play near the end zone, Breida had his way with Wilson again, juking him to the outside, then turning to the inside to catch his second score of the game from 5 yards out.
It’s like 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan zeroed on the rookie in his pre-game planning. Mission accomplished, because Wilson was exposed as Wilson allowed two touchdowns in the first quarter.
Wilson has potential and at times, we’ve seem him flash those skills on the field. That said, there are times the Alabama product reminds us why he fell to the fifth round after draftniks had him pegged as second-round selection.
Wilson was Pro Football Focus’ lowest graded defender in the Ravens win and it’s a good bet he’ll score badly when this weeks results are posted. PFF has graded 78 linebackers this season, Wilson chimes in at 55.
While I remain high on Wilson, his absence also makes the loss of Christian Kirksey feel even greater. Kirksey is out for the season after going pectoral surgery.
For as hyped as Wilson and Sione Takitaki were entering the season, Kirksey and Joe Schobert staved off the first-year players.
