Of course the Browns should be calling Washington about Trent Williams. That said, don’t you think John Dorsey’s reached out to the most dysfunctional team in football?

Williams doesn’t want to play for Washington and is holding out.

Redskins’ GM Bruce Allen made it known that trade discussions regarding his franchise left tackle are not on going. Around the rumor mill, the Washington Post ran a story that cited an anonymous source as saying Allen believes Williams will return once he losses enough money.

He’s already lost $4 million game checks, in addition $1.5 million in bonus money.

Even if Williams was available, the price might be too high–two first-round picks high. He’s an elite player when healthy, but he hasn’t been healthy lately and at 31, he’s played more snap counts than he’ll play in the future.

That the Redskins are sticking to their stance–that they won’t even consider trading him–makes me wonder if Williams is 100 percent healthy. If something is wrong, it makes no sense to let it be known publicly. Such a disclosure might hurt Williams’ trade value when Washington is ready to deal him.

No matter where Williams ens up playing, it will be interesting to see how his holdout ends. If he doesn’t play soon, he won’t accrue a year towards free agency. If he starts suiting up, he can be a free agent after the 2020 season.

On the flip side, you’ve got to figure Washington wants to get something for an elite player that can just walk at the end of his pact.
