5 Cleveland Browns whose stocks are down as Steelers get revenge
5. Odell Beckham
What’s the point of having Odell Beckham Jr. if he doesn’t do anything?
ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi made great point about the Browns big-name wideout after the game, basically saying that he might as well be a free-agent receiver off the street.
My kids keep asking me how OBJ is doing and my response always seems to be, “I’ll let you know when he does something.”
The Browns only designed plays for the supposed great looked like Hail Mary calls at the end of the first half as Mayfield threw to OBJ in double coverage.
Beckham was targeted six times and had 29 yards recovering. His longest play went for 19 yards. He was a non-factor in the Browns’ biggest game of the year.
I don’t know if it’s his fault, Mayfield’s fault, Kitchens’ fault, the line’s fault or whether we should just pin the blame on Frank Jackson.
One thing is clear, and that is OBJ is being doubled covered. Is that leaving the door open for Landry who looks better and better as the season drags on? I still have my doubts about this excuse because OBJ has been OBJ for a long time. He just didn’t start being double covered in 2019.
I’d be open to trading him this offseason unless the Browns get a new coach who can sell ownership and John Dorsey on what a pro offense is supposed to look like.
If Cleveland doesn’t go that route, there’s not much sense in keeping Beckham and his massive contract around when there’s other holes on the team.
