6. Spurs give LaMarcus Aldridge, Luka Samanic, draft pick

OK, this one won’t carry a lot of buzz, but I thought it was interesting when I saw it.

Gunnar Conway of Sir Charles in Charge pegged San Antonio as a good fit for love largely because 34-year old LaMarcus Aldridge is a player in decline. This deal would allow Greg Popovich to solidify his front court.

The Cavs would have to take Aldridge on, but only to make the money work. While he’s still a name, Aldridge wouldn’t figure to be a part of Cleveland’s long-term plans. The veteran is averaging 18.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He’s making $26 million this season and $25 million next.

In all likelihood, if the Cavs did get him, they could probably flip him elsewhere.

For Cleveland, obviously, the Spurs would have to toss in a first-round pick to really make this deal worth making, however, Conway also through the name of Luka Samanic, the 19th overall pick in last summer’s draft.

At 6-foot-10, Samanic has stretch-four potential. He’s spent most of the season in the G-League, appearing in 13 games (12 starts) for the Austin Spurts while averaging 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in just a tick over 25 minutes per game.

Samanic is only 19. If the Cavs can get someone like this in the deal, more power to Koby Altman and company.
