RB Raheem Mostert (49ers)

Straight out of New Symerna Beach, FL comes Raheem Mostert. The former product of New Symerna Beach High, and by way of Purdue University, Mostert left high school and made his way up north for college. Places like Indiana, Illinois, Marshall, Rutgers, Navy, and others vied for his services, yet it was the Purdue Boilermakers that ultimately won the 3-star recruit (according to Rivals.)

During his time with Purdue however, Mostert failed to garner any real hype or interest as a running back. During his four years with the program, the former high school track star only mustered 759 yards as a rusher. Luckily for Mostert, he had value in other avenues, racking up 2,289 yards as a return specialist; all while scoring eight touchdowns over his career with the Indiana based college.

He went undrafted in 2015 where he ultimately signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’d get cut and signed by the Miami Dolphins, and again by the Baltimore Ravens. He’d finally end up in Cleveland in 2015 and became the primary returner for the special team over the last three games of the season. During his time with Cleveland, he found his now-wife Devon and thought they’d have a future together in Cleveland before he ultimately got waived in September of the following year.

He’d find his way to San Francisco originally as a return man, and ultimately signed a three-year deal to stay with the 49ers. He’s the 3rd string running back for the team but despite never starting a game due to Matt Breida (623) and Tevin Coleman (544), it’s Mostert (772) that leads the team in rushing yards.
