3. Too much hype

Few things ever, truly live up to the hype. It’s just the way it is. But with the Browns pushing the new uniforms so heavily through their social media channels, they were setting themselves up for criticism when they basically served up a big nothing-burger.

A “modern twist” was promised, and apparently, the “new” in the uniforms is nothing more than a commercial for Nike, via ClevelandBrowns.com.

"“…Te Browns’ updated look pays homage to the past while incorporating all of the modern technology of the Nike Vapor Untouchable Uniform, which provides the kind of wear-ability and comfort players expect in the modern NFL.”"

Great, Nike needs more help selling apparel.

If you’re looking for something more modern in the jersey, it’s the numerals, which are a bit more rounded, than block text. Compare the new digits to the traditional Packers uniforms. You’ll see a difference, albeit minor.

Ok, so the modern twist didn’t live up to the hype everyone got excited about when they saw fan mock-ups on the Internet.

Going back to the old uniforms isn’t a bad idea. I’ve always liked the uniforms the way they were from the glory years of Bernie Kosar to whatever it is we watched from 1999-2014.

That said, I wasn’t opposed to a change and was wiling to give ownership a chance to re-vamp the look. NBA teams have more uniforms than the earth has blades of grass, so why couldn’t the Browns have a little fun?

Well, after extensive research by the Browns and Nike, Cleveland fans were given the ugliest uniforms in the NFL. Those uniforms conjure up memories of Johnny Manziel running all over the place, having no idea what he was doing. That’s what you could say about that uniform design. It was all over the place and awful.

If memory serves me right, it took less than two years for the team to announce a new uniform was coming, and we got them today. The new old uniforms.

I think most fans don’t mind go backing to these classic threads, however, don’t be surprised if a good sect throw in some snarky comments asking what the fuss was all about.
