NFL Draft: Second day grades for the 2020 NFL Draft
By Chad Porto
NFC South
Tampa Bay – SAF Antonie Winfield Jr. (OSU), RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn (Vanderbilt)
I still don’t believe the Buccaneers are going to be good in 2020, not even with Tom Brady (7-9, baby!). Antonie Winfield is a great option at safety, however. Will he be enough to get the team over the top? No, but he might be around long enough to restart that Buccaneer defense with a new crop of guys. It’s a solid day, just nothing to write home about.
Grade: C+ (Ke’Shawn Vaughn does nothing for me.)
New Orleans – OLB Zack Baun (Wisconsin), TE Adam Trautma (Dayton)
The New Orleans Saints literally traded away the rest of their draft for Dayton’s Adam Trautma, so he better be worth it, because unless they trade back in their done for the year. Zack Baun is instant ‘A’ material. Trautma has a high ceiling. Great rounds even if it was their last.
Grade: A (High upside for both guys, we’ll see.)
Atlanta – DE Marlon Davidson (Auburn), IL Matt Hennessy (Temple)
A G/C in Matt Hennessy, who will probably start at guard unless something’s wrong with future-Hall-of-Fame center Alex Mack. Marlon Davidson isn’t someone I’m high on, and to be honest, a lot of SEC pass rushers bust out. We’ll see if Davidson can buck the trend.
Grade: B- (Hennessy is an interesting pick but Davidson might not have been the guy to take)
Carolina – DE Yetur Gross-Matos (PSU), SAF Jeremy Chinn (Southern Illinois)
The Panthers’ defense will be good in 2020 at the very least with Yetur Gross-Matos. He’s what Aaron Maybin should’ve been. Dynamic lateral quickness and a non-stop motor. Might not be a double-digit sack guy, but could be in the league for over a decade as a starter. Jeremy Shinn is all upside and potential.
Grade: A- (That defense is looking pretty rebuilt.)
