Cleveland Indians: 3 moves they need to make before the trade deadline
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Indians need to make three major decisions before the trade deadline.
The Cleveland Indians are a playoff team, with or without a good outfield unit and two of their better pitchers. That’s just a fact at this point. They can seemingly find a way to win no matter what issues they have. That’s a great thing, but not one the fans or the team should want to see through to the end. Improving the team is a must, and there are three key moves that need to be done heading into the trade deadline on Aug 31.
Unlike most years, there wouldn’t be much of a need to make hasty decisions after a month of games, but considering there are only 60 games this season the team can ill afford to let talent “get right” over the course of a season Drastic moves need to be made, especially if indeed Francisco Lindor isn’t sticking around past next season. The team needs to bolster itself when it can.
The Indians are a great franchise with a great ability to re-load but part of being able to perpetually reload is to trade off some assets that you have a surplus of (like pitching) to fill holes elsewhere. It also means making wise investments in free agents. Signing someone like Yasiel Puig on a one year deal sure seems like a good idea but that’s assuming Puig would take a one year deal, and by all accounts that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Otherwise, why is Puig still unsigned?
So making some key signings, trading away certain assets, and being aware of what you’re minor league system looks like are all necessary things in this constant game of improvement. So what things do the Indians need to do to get to the World Series?
Well, these are the three moves that need to be made before the MLB trade deadline.
