3. Betting on inexperience at LB

It’s been known Mack Wilson won’t be playing (hyperextended knee) until at least mid-October, so the already thin linebacking corps goes into Baltimore seemingly behind the 8-ball against a team with a rich tradition at the position.

Veteran B.J. Goodson will take the MIKE duties, and be the defensive player communicating with coaches throughout the game. His signing seemed like a minor one back in March, but thankfully, the Browns had the foresight to add some kind of depth at the spot.

Additionally, the fan base will get to find out if 2019 third-round pick Sione Takitaki can play. He was very limited as a rookie and now he’s finally getting his shot.

At the WILL, or weak side spot, the Browns have LSU late third-round pick Jacob Phillips as Wilson’s backup. It’s astounding and a little scary that when the Browns do play their three backers, that two (Phillips and Takitaki) have virtually no experience.

Obviously, LB is a position that’s not valued by Paul DePodesta and Andrew Berry, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the Harvard brass have it right.
