Take #2: Deemphasize the passing game

A lot of people sneered at the idea of Odell Beckham, Jr. joining the Browns in the 2019 season, and continued their disbelief heading into the 2020 season. The biggest determining factor in that was the fact that the Browns are predominantly a rushing offense. With rushing powerhouses like Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, why would you want to pass the ball?

Well, Beckham, Jr., Jarvis Landry, and Rashard Higgins are three good reasons, to say the least. I’m not saying that we need to stop running the ball, but a well-mixed offense has been the key to the Browns’ success in 2020. The combination of a strong passing game and two nearly unstoppable running backs have proven to be a great 1-2 punch offensive strategy for Cleveland this season.

The idea of completely stopping the passing game really seems laughable, as the Browns have racked up 16 touchdowns through passing this season, compared to their 10 rushing. The Browns have a well-balanced offense and don’t need to make major changes this late in the season for no reason.

They shifted to a more rushing-focused offense after Beckham, Jr. went down with an ACL injury earlier this year, but the offense is still seeing a balance of both rushing and passing. So as far as I can see it, there’s no need to dial back our passing game when Landry and Higgins are still putting up spectacular performances.
