Cleveland Indians: 3 new free agents who would fit with Tribe
3. Kyle Schwarber
It turns out, Kyle Schwarber is not Babe Ruth, as Joe Buck led us to believe during the 2016 World Series. The Middletown, Ohio, native never really lived up to expectations with the Cubs as far as hitting for average goes, and Chicago parted ways with the Middletown, Ohio native, making him a free agent.
There’s been rumors about Schwarber and the Indians before. He was projected to earn $8-$9 million and as was the case with Rosario, every team passed as he sat on the waiver wire.
If the price is right, I could certainly see the Indians making a pitch to Schwarber. He’s primarily played left field with Chicago after hanging up his catcher’s mask after coming back from that 2016 injury.
Josh Naylor is viewed as an outfield starter, but he can also play first base. Schwarber has appeared in one game at first.
Schwarber hit an abysmal .188 (.701), but did hit 11 home runs in 59 games last season. He averaged 31 homers between 2017-2019.
