Whoever plays right guard

Let’s be clear, Nick Harris is bad. This isn’t the headline, front-page news. This is just a fact. The team has been dead in the water rushing the ball the last two weeks with Harris starting. You can argue any which way from Sunday until your blue in the face why you think he’s played well or can be/will be a good starter.

Here are the facts, the Browns have averaged 3.1 yards rushing since Harris was forced to take over the job from an injured Chris Hubbard. Harris had a few highlight blocks against the Giants but largely played terribly. He got moved off the block, he couldn’t get Dexter Lawerence out of the hole, and the only time it seemed Harris caught Lawerence was on a trap play.

The Jets had a worse defensive line than the Giants and absolutely ghosted Harris all day. The line may have been able to run the ball a bit better against the Jets, but there was nowhere to run to, with Kendall Lamm being a disaster at left tackle in that game, filling in for Jedrick Wills.

Well, Lamm won’t be starting for Wells on Sunday, thankfully. They’re not rushing back Wyatt Teller, but they’re sure hoping he can get right for Sunday because they clearly do not want or trust Harris. Why would you? The Browns haven’t been able to run off the right side of the line since his insertion, and that was the side of the line that was doing the best work rushing the ball.

So whether it’s Harris or Teller or the ghost of Lou Groza, someone needs to be able to open up holes at that spot.
