The Cleveland Indians reportedly received Andres Gimenez in the Francisco Lindor trade, which means the Tribe has their shortstop of the future right now.

Gimenez made the Mets roster out of Summer camp and eventually earned the role of starting shortstop in September.

I wrote about him March, noting that the Tribe needed to come away with him in any deal.

Gimenez, 22, got his first taste of the big leagues in 2020, playing in 49 games. He hit .263 (.732 OPS) and posted a 1.0 WAR. Baseball America described him having a “discerning batting eye,’ noting that he could develop into a plus hit at the major league level, while perhaps becoming a power hitter.

Defensively, Gimenez is considered to have a plus glove at both shorstop and second base, and he also has the versatility to play third.
